Overview
In 2009, the Quebec Ministry of Transportation started the reconstruction of the southern structure of the Galipeault Bridge on Highway 20, between Ile-Perrot and Montreal. During the structure demolition, all eastbound traffic was redirected to the northern structure, where a contraflow lane was put into place using a movable barrier. This allowed optimal use of the three lanes available for the duration of the project. Lane configuration was changed twice a day, five days a week. All lane closing and opening operations were safely conducted with the push of a button and a series of Versilis’ automated warning signs and gates.
Project Scope
Versilis worked together with the Quebec Ministry of Transportation, design engineers, and the contractor to install a solar-powered automated lane closure solution at both ends of the movable barrier. In total, 14 automated warning signs and 12 automated gates were installed. The automation eliminated the need to have workers deploy and dismantle traffic signs and drums in live lanes.
